Hello, I am Brenton. Some people call me Brent. Some people have been known to call me Ben – there’s a story behind that, but I’ll save it for another time.
The surname is a bit trickier: Prigge. It’s originally German, so the final ‘e’ is pronounced. I suppose if you imagined the final letter as an ‘a’ you would probably say it correctly – or pretty close. I’m quite used to it being said wrongly anyway! Right, that’s the name out of the way.
A bit of background: I was born in South Africa, the eldest of four boys, and had a very happy early childhood growing up in a very small village in the hills of Kwazulu Natal. We then moved to Port Shepstone on the East coast of Kwazulu Natal for my high school years, and that too was a very happy time – and the beginning of my love for the sea.
Dear Friends,
Lent is well under way as I write this, and Easter is coming… but first there will be Good Friday.
I remember reading a wonderful book by Tony Campolo with the title It’s Friday… but Sunday’s coming.”
The subject of the book is based on a Good Friday sermon Tony Campolo had heard, where the preacher get stressing that no matter how dark, how depressing, how hopeless and how agonising the events of Good Friday, we know… Sunday’s coming. Death does not get the final say. God’s resurrection, life-giving power bursts through the darkness like a glorious sun-rise and God’s say is final and for always. God defeated death on that day, and God has continued to offer new life and resurrection hope every day ever since and always will.
With this powerful hope - which is the essence of the Good News we have in Christ Jesus - with this everlasting hope as our firm foundation, let me risk exploring what happens if we look at Tony Campolo’s message from the other side (I am reminded of Joni Mitchell’s song, I’ve looked at life from both sides now…).

Dear friends,
At the heart of Christian faith lies the twin realities we commemorate and celebrate at Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The journey that Jesus makes between those two events and all that they symbolise might encompass much of our own experience as disciples today. . . . .
