As a church we have an infant baptism (sometimes called 'Christening') and we usually hold the service on a Sunday morning as part of our main service of the day. The service itself requires the parents to make quite demanding promises on providing a Christian home, being a Christian example and to ensure that the child has the opportunity to grow up being taught the Christian way of life. The understanding is that the parents undertake the promises on behalf of the child celebrating God's grace and mercy being extended towards us, whilst recognising that hopefully one day the child will decide for him/herself to follow Jesus.
Thanksgiving
Some parents are simply thankful for the gift of a child and want to express that in church without making promises which they feel would be hard for them to embrace. The important thing is to make contact so we can explain more fully our outlook. We can assure you of a warm welcome. Please feel free to get in touch.

When you enquire about a special service at Crownhill Methodist our first response is always please contact us so we can discuss your plans.
We do not have any complicated rules with regard to who may be married, for example as Methodists we don't have parish boundaries but we would normally expect the bride or groom to reside in Plymouth.
As a church we do not preclude divorcees, but we do take marriage seriously and seek to clarify the position. All circumstances are individual; an informal appointment would normally be made with the minister to discuss your plans.
We are friendly and approachable and would encourage you to make contact with Rev Brenton Prigge on 07368918980
We celebrate Lent and Easter (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday) across the churches led by our minister.
Easter Sunday Communion service at Crownhill starts at 10.30am. Please see events calendar for details.
We celebrate Harvest, normally towards the end of September, with a social evening on the Saturday and visiting preacher on the Sunday morning. Gifts of money are usually brought by the congregation and distributed to the Food Bank and Shekinah Mission.
Christmas starts with Christ. We start our celebrations with a special Community candle-lit carol service on a Sunday afternoon. This starts at 4pm, and involves members of the local community, with traditional 9 lessons and carols. On Christmas Eve, we sing carols outside the church during the morning. Then at 4pm, we hold our Crib service. At 11.30pm, there is a Communion service, taking us into Christmas Day. Our family service on Christmas Day starts at 10.30am.
An Ecumenical service is held late in January to mark the end of the Week of Christian Unity. This takes place, usually on a Sunday evening, at one of the churches in the North Plymouth area. Please see calendar for details.
The Covenant Service, held during early January has special significance to all Methodists. It is a celebration of all that God has done and an affirmation that we give our lives and choices to Him.
During the service we join in a special prayer, printed here so that we can read it through and be prepared to say it on that morning. (This is the modern version, taken from the Methodist Worship Book).
I am no longer my own but yours.
Your will, not mine, be done in all things,
wherever you may place me,
in all that I do
and in all that I may endure;
when there is work for me
and when there is none;
when I am troubled
and when I am at peace.
Your will be done
when I am valued
and when I am disregarded;
when I find fulfilment
and when it is lacking;
when I have all things,
and when I have nothing.
I willingly offer
all I have and am
to serve you,
as and where you choose.
Glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
you are mine and I am yours.
May it be so for ever.
Let this covenant now made on earth
be fulfilled in Heaven.
Amen.
